Over the Moon
Over the Moon

“Over the Moon” illustrates the Mother Goose nursery rhyme of “Hey, diddle, diddle.”
The barn used for this illustration is the D. Nelson Anderson Barn located on Paint Fork Rd. near Mars Hill, NC. which is a “Bull Face” tobacco barn built in the early 1900s. Bull Face tobacco was a form of twist chewing tobacco that was cured by smoking the tobacco leaves using green cherry or apple wood. It is on the NC Barn Alliance register of historic barns in the Beech Glen community of Madison County, NC.

The Mother Goose rhyme goes as follows…

Hey, diddle, diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon;
The little dog laughed
To see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.
